Check out the 'transformed tree' at Abington Area Community Park

First Mike Gockley of Clarks Green topped a lakeside dead pine tree and removed the dead branches. Next, amidst the changing leaves of October, Kevin Treat, the local wood carver, spent a few days using his chainsaw. He worked on a boom lift to carve,  treat and stain a few woodland creatures into the tree.

There is a sentinel Eagle, Owl and Bear which make this a standout park feature as well as a marker for the start of the developing lakeside trail to be completed in spring. This trailhead marker should last about two decades to reflect art in nature.

Funds for the tree carving project were provided by a Lackawanna County Arts grant awarded to Clarks Green Borough and Waverly Township on behalf of the Abington Area Joint Recreation Board; the Abington Area Community Classroom; Leela Baikadi and friends; Clarks Summit UPS Store owner, Kip Conforti and Mike Sheruda, Down to Earth Rental Equipment.

Samples of Treat’s work can be seen on his website www.sawptician.com.
