Softball Fields

Youth sized softball field with skinned infield with Dimatex mix, well maintained outfield, dugouts, bleachers, and side fences. Additional spectator areas flat ground on the third base side, and sloped ground on the first base side. Constructed in 1985, Field A is located along unpaved Grove Street near the Clarks Summit State Hospital. Field B is located next to the Lake.

 

International Soccer Field

International sized soccer field enclosed by 150 foot by 360 foot fence with aluminum single row benches for participants. Originally constructed in 1992 by the US Army Reserve 365th Engineers Company C, it's located along Grove Street, next to the State Hospital above the parking for Softball Fields A and B and below the parking at the Jack Stroney Soccer Field.

Currently being renovated with a Field Turf synthetic playing surface, sports lighting package, and additional coaches, first aid and handicapped parking. 

 

Jack Stroney Soccer Field

Full size soccer field enclosed by 150 foot by 360 foot fence with aluminum single row benches for participants. Constructed in 2000 in partnership with the Abington Youth Soccer League, it's located next to the State Hospital above Softball Fields A and B and the International Soccer field. The Field is named for founding board member John Stroney.

 

Eston Wilson Lake

Thirteen acre lake environmentally maintained by Eco-Scientific. Depth ranges to 10 feet. It's frequently stocked with largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, perch, and channel catfish. In March of 2009 the PA Fish & Boat Commission added 1500 Rainbow Trout.

It's located along Route 307 Winola Road accessed by the parking lot for the Softball Fields A and B. The Lake is handicapped accessible via two fishing piers and the grass area along the dam that boarders Softball Field B.  

Concession Stand

Brown block one story structure with electrical service for a refrigerator, freezer, grill, cooler, and other food and drink vending. Constructed in 1992 by the US Army Reserve 365th Engineers Company C, it's located in the lower parking lot in between Softball Field A and B.

Picnic Areas

 

Flat, landscaped, maintained grounds in an open area and with high overhanging trees and picnic tables. It's located on parts of two sides of Eston Wilson Lake and accessed by the parking lot for the Softball Fields A and B. The picnic area is handicapped accessible.

 

Nature Trails

Nature Trails are open for rustic hiking along the Lake and into the hilly wooded area above and behind Eston Wilson Lake. About one mile of trails have been completed, mostly covered with wood-chip base. A worthwhile, short hike thru meadow, over streams, along wetlands and through woods.  Perfect for exploring with kids and walking with your dog.

Scouts, students, community volunteers and municipal public works crews have teamed to improvize this trail.

 

Abington Senior Center

Free standing complex, the Abington Senior Center is constructed on property leased to and maintained by the Borough of Clarks Summit. It's located on the west side of Route 307 Winola Road.

 

Community Garden

Established in '08, the Community Garden restored 2 acres of former farm land into a crop-growing cooperative for local families and clubs. Individuals and organizations can contact the Community Garden Coordinator thru the CONTACT feature on this website.

Individual plots are the responsibility of those granted a 'deed', and the produce and flowers they grow is their to keep or sell.

 

The "Boundless Playground" is a playground designed to be enjoyed full by able-bodied and handicapped visitors. This $250,000 project was installed by the Lackawanna County Commissioners.

The Abington Dog Park is a fenced in play and training area for dogs and dog owners.
