![]() The AAJRB is responding to a community need for more playing field access with the addition of field lighting, enhancing the quality of our available sports facility. The illumination of a full soccer field will widen the community's recreational opportunity by extending the playing season and hours. At its December 29th meeting, Clarks Green awarded a contract to Joyce Electrical Co., Eynon, PA,. According to outgoing council member and president, Marie King, “Joyce Electric won the contract out of a field of seven contractors who bid on the extensive lighting project with a bid of $108,000.
The bid was for: 4 tower, 25 foot candle system using Musco Sports Lighting.” The contracts are in process and construction will begin in late winter. Bill Risse, AAJRB Chairman added, “We are currently researching coin operated on-site controls for lighting, and lightening warning technology to add to thecontract.” Clarks Green, with the assistance of Solicitor Al Weinshenk, has been instrumental in securing hundreds of thousands of dollars in park improvements, by partnering with the AAJRB. Grant writer Michele Breslin commented on the benefits of lighting the fields, “more games can be scheduled, more kids and teams will have a place to play, and they will have a chance to develop the life skills that are learned from participating in team sports. Mike Hargrove, AAJRB member and AYSL Board member notes, “You can expect added flexibility for teams to play both day or night, and maybe more parents who work during the day could get to attend more games.” AYSL donated half of the funds as a match to a state DCNR recreation grant for the project. Mrs. King said, ‘I’m really proud of our Board and the park volunteers they’ve encouraged to get involved. The amount of energy they have put into our park is phenomenal. This is real community progress at its finest and I hope Clarks Green’s support will continue. I also challenge the other municipalities to step up for the health of the community." |
