Lackawanna County Commissioners Mike Washo and Corey O'Brien, and State Rep. Jim Wanzsac led a delegation of AAJRB volunteers, municipal officials and project sponsors as ground was broken in late April for the Abington Community Garden.

The current  of garden plots and sections still available can be seen by clicking on this link:

This 2 acre section of former farmland is once again growing produce and flowers for dozens of local families.  The Community Garden project organized by the Abington Area Join Recreation Board give regional families the opportunity to rent sections of the garden for the growing eason, and participate in joint cultivation, planting and watering strategies.

It is very inexpensive to lease a graden site, which has been cultivated, fenced-in and supplied with water.  For more information about how to join in the Community Garden effort, please contact the AAJRB via the 'Contact' section of this site. Or you can email the Community Garden Coordinator, Barbara Grabfelder:    This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
